Educational Specialist in Higher Education (455*)
The Education Specialist (Ed.S.) degree in Higher Education provides 30 semester hours of advanced graduate work beyond the M.A. degree for professionals interested in postsecondary education. This degree is for individuals interested in advancing their careers, preparing for a doctoral program, and/or enhancing their practice. Students in the program select from one of the following three concentrations:
- Community College & University Leadership
- To complete a survey indicating your interest in participating in a cohort on the main campus for the Ed.S. in Community College and University Leadership concentration, to start either in Fall 2012 or Spring 2013, please click here.
- Cohort in Cleveland County (Fall 2011- Spring 2013)
- Adult & Developmental Education

- We are not currently accepting applications for the Ed.S.-Teaching concentration.
*Note: The Ed. S. in Higher Education is a non-licensure program and does not lead to NC K-12 teaching, administration, or supervision licensure.
Students will need to submit an Admission to Candidacy and a Program of Study and complete a Comprehensive Exam for graduation.
Education Specialist to Doctorate Advantage
Through another of its graduate programs, ASU offers a Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) degree in Educational Leadership. This is a terminal degree for leaders in both K-12 and postsecondary settings. When graduates of the Higher Education Program's Ed.S. concentrations are accepted into the Doctoral Program, they may request to have a minimum of 18 credit hours of their Ed.S. coursework applied toward the doctoral requirements.
