Education Specialist in Higher Education (455*)

The Education Specialist (Ed.S.) degree in Higher Education provides 30 semester hours of advanced graduate work beyond the M.A. degree for professionals interested in postsecondary education. This degree is for individuals interested in advancing their careers, preparing for a doctoral program, and/or enhancing their practice. Students in the program select from one of the following three concentrations:

*Note: The Ed.S. in Higher Education is a non-licensure program and does not lead to NC K-12 teaching, administration, or supervision licensure.


Program Requirements

Once enrolled, students will need to submit a Program of Study (available here) and an Admission to Candidacy. A written Comprehensive Exam is required in the last semester of coursework.

 

Education Specialist to Doctorate Advantage

Through another of its graduate programs, ASU offers a Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) degree in Educational Leadership. This is a terminal degree for leaders in both K-12 and postsecondary settings. When graduates of the Higher Education Program's Ed.S. concentrations are accepted into the Doctoral Program, they may request to have a minimum of 18 credit hours of their Ed.S. coursework applied toward the doctoral requirements.
