Instructional Technology
The Instructional Technology program at Appalachian State University is an innovative, award-winning graduate degree program. It is part of the Department of Leadership and Educational Studies and is unique in many ways. Most important is our reliance upon the college's social constructivist conceptual framework to guide all teaching, research, and service activities.
Nearly all of our 250 students are part-time, distance-based practicing education professionals who learn together in regional cohorts. All of our content -- and nearly all of our interactions with students and with each other -- is housed in an innovative online learning environment, called AET Zone. AET Zone, a 3D virtual world for learning, has been recognized as a significant and innovative educational technology initiative. To learn more about AET Zone, please visit http://www.lesn.appstate.edu/aetz/description.htm
The Instructional Technology/Computers program is designed for K-12 educators and administrators who want to combine studies in both instructional applications and computer technologies. These studies lead to state licensure for the Technology Director (077) and the Technology Facilitator Endorsement (079). Many teachers pursue this degree to improve their use of computer technologies in their classrooms. Click here for description of courses.
