Curriculum Timeline [PDF]
- Read the ASU Graduate Bulletin to learn more about the MLS program requirements and applying to the graduate school
- Take the GRE or Millers Analogy Text (MAT)
- Apply to Graduate School
- Contact your advisor about starting your MLS coursework
- For international students only, be sure to contact the Office of International Education and Development
- Begin your MLS program. See the Library Science website for course checklists
- Apply for MLS scholarships (in spring only)
- If in need of M licensure (lateral entry school library track students only), begin taking these required courses ASAP-M coursework must be completed PRIOR to taking LIB 5525 Product of Learing
- After completing 1-3 semesters, submit a completed Program of Study and Admission to Candidacy form to the MLS program director
- In final two semesters:
- School library students: Product of Learning & School Internship
- Public library students: Comprehensive Exam (to be scheduled) and public library internship
- Dual Track students: Product of Learning, public library comprehensive exam (to be scheduled) and both internships (school and public)
- At the beginnning of your last semester:
- Submit change form (if any changes have been made) to the Program of Study to the MLS program director
- Apply to graduate-check deadlines for semester you are graduating
- Complete coursework and comprehensive exam (pulic library and dual track only)
- Prepare to apply for licensure
- School Track students:
- Take Praxis II to apply for licensure (not required for graduation)
- Public library and dual track students:
- Join Appalachian State University Alumni Online Community. It's free!
- Graduation!
