Students may enter the Library Science Master's program with any undergraduate major. We offer program tracks in school librarianship, public librarianship, and a dual track for those students seeking certification in both.

Requirements for Media Coordinator (076) Licensure for School Librarians: Completion entitles the student to 076 Media Coordinator Licensure in the State of North Carolina.

Does not lead to Media Coordinator Licensure. Completion entitles the student to apply for Public Librarian Certification from the North Carolina Public Librarian Certification Commission.

Dual Track Option:

Students may seek certification in both school and public libraries by enrolling in 12 additional credit hours beyond the required 36.  Students opting for dual track must take the 21 hours of required coursework and all school and public library courses with the exception of either LIB 5195: Critical Issues in Literature and Media or LIB 5165: Literature and Media for Children and Youth (students will choose one of these courses based on their prior knowledge of and experience with youth literature).

M Level License Option:

M Level License
For those without a teaching license pursuing the school media track,
 12 additional hours are required.
