Add-on Licensure

The "add-on" Licensure Program is a non-degree program that will prepare students to meet the North Carolina State Requirements for principal licensure. Candidates must hold a master's degree in education or a related field from a regionally accredited institution and have completed three years of classroom teaching or have experience in a related area such as media specialist, guidance counselor or technology facilitator. The 24 semester hour program includes the 9 hours of internship courses.

Admission Requirements
Applicants for the add on licensure program must:
- Hold a master's degree with at least a 3.0 GPA from a regionally accredited institution;
- Have at least three years of successful teaching experience or successful experience in another related area of public school work (e.g. counseling, media specialist, etc.);
- Hold a valid license to teach and/or practice one of the other educational specialties in NC public schools; and
- Apply for admission and be accepted into the ASU Graduate School;
- *Note: GRE scores are waived for the add-on licensure program and are not required for admission.
Internship Courses
This program requires three 3-semester-hour internship courses. Students are required to have at least 120 hours of school/school system-based supervised experiences for each internship course. There will be four required seminars each semester of the internship. The internships are intended to help students learn about the demands, skills and issues involved in the work of assistant principals and principals. These experiences should be substantive learning experiences mutually designed the student, school internship contact person and an ASU faculty member.
Schedule/Program Completion
The program is designed to be completed in four semesters. Six semester hours (two courses) are offered in each cohort each semester.
