Dr. Brandy Bryson

Dr. Brandy Bryson is a Professor of Leadership and Educational Studies at Appalachian State University and a nationally recognized consultant in the areas of educational access, organizational leadership, and strategic planning for inclusive educational and work environments. With over a decade of experience teaching and coaching across undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral programs, Dr. Bryson is known for her work advancing inclusive leadership, institutional change, and student success across the PK–20 educational pipeline.

She previously served as Appalachian State’s inaugural Director of Inclusive Excellence, where she led large-scale professional development initiatives and oversaw a cross-campus team dedicated to cultivating inclusive learning and workplace environments. In this role, and her position with the Center for Strategic Leadership and Social Innovation, Dr. Bryson has facilitated leadership coaching, organizational development, and campus climate assessments for over 30 colleges, universities, school districts, nonprofit organizations, and corporate entities nationwide. 

Her research focuses on access and opportunity in education, leadership development, and the structural barriers that impact marginalized communities. She has authored numerous publications and regularly presents her research and practice-based insights at national and international conferences. Her coaching and workshops cover a range of topics, including student success strategies, inclusive academic excellence, culturally sustaining leadership, and creating cultures that support belonging and engagement. Dr. Bryson has a Ph.D. in Social Foundations of Education, a graduate certificate in Organizational Leadership, a Master’s of Social Work, and a Bachelor’s of Science in Psychology and Sociology.
